For Adults:

  • Drive carefully at driveways, curves, hills, stop signs, and intersections.
  • Watch for kids walking in the street.
  • Know when your neighborhood holds Halloween activities.
  • Don't use cell phones while driving.
  • Stay well below the posted speed limit during trick-or-treating hours.
  • Do not pass other vehicles. They may be dropping off or stopped for kids.
  • Never assume a pedestrian approaching the roadway will stop for you.
  • Clear all debris and clutter from walkways, stairs, and yard.
  • Make sure decorations don’t create hazards.
  • Check outdoor lighting – is it bright enough?
  • Use battery powered lanterns or light sticks to light jack-o-lanterns.
  • Do not overload outlets.
  • If using electric decorations, make sure the cords are safe for outdoors, are free of wear and tear, and are installed and used properly.
  • Turn on front door light and light walkway to welcome trick-or-treaters.
  • Keep your pets inside. Children might not enjoy meeting the family dog.

For Parents:

  • Increase your children(s) visibility: Use bright colored clothing, add reflective tape to costumes, and attach glowsticks to wrists or candy bags.
  • Give children flashlights / glowsticks to help see walkways and sidewalks.
  • Discuss a trick-or-treating route with children and be sure they know how to cross a street properly.
  • Check all candy before allowing children to eat it.
  • If your child is carrying a prop (such as a knife or pitchfork), ensure they won’t cause injury.
  • Make sure kids won’t trip on their costumes.

Just wanted to make a quick stop to say you have a great post/blog. I might use it myself on my own insurance blog… just joking! Anyhow I do run a few blogs on auto insurance, home insurance, life insurance, and health insurance. Feel free to drop me an email for more details.
