If You Have A Car Accident

1. Call 911 if anyone is injured.
2. Do not apologize or admit fault.
3. Get names, addresses, phone numbers, makes and models of vehicles, and driver's license and license plate numbers of all other drivers, passengers, and witnesses.
4. Get all other drivers' insurance information (insurance company, policy number, and contact info).
5. Carefully examine damage to other vehicles.
6. Call the police.
7. Only discuss the accident with the police or with your insurance representative.

Here's a complete list of the info you should gather after an accident:

1. Date & time
2. City, street, intersection
3. Note stoplights, traffic signs, double lins in the road, etc.
4. Road and weather conditions
5. Direction & speed of both vehicles
6. Photographs of scene of accident and any damage, if possible
7. Did police take a report? If so, what department and case number
8. Detailed description of what happened
9. Info about other driver (name, phone, address, make, license plate #, driver's license #, insurer, policy #, birth date)
10. Witness info. This is important - gather as many as possible.
